William Eugene Smith was born on December 30, 1918, Wichita, Kansas. William took his first photographs in between 1933 and 1935. William got a scholarship at the University Notre Dame, in Indiana, in photography.From 1938 to 1939 Smith worked as a freelance photographer for the Black Star Agency, publishing photographs in Life, Collier's, Harper's Bazaar, and other periodicals, including the New York Times. http://biography.yourdictionary.com/w-eugene-smith#9f7Q1KEixf8XbpfL.99 At age 14 Smith began to use photography and within a year he had become a photographer for two newspapers.In 1942 he became a war correspondent for Life magazine and covered many of the major battles of the Pacific theater during World War II.
